Say Good-Bye to Your Bland Home Office!

Who said your home office has to be formal and boring?  The psychological effects of color have been heavily explored, so why not bring some of those principles to your home office.  Stimulate your brain, encourage creativity, and boost your productivity with a splash of color!  The type of color you pick can truly define your space, for instance, bold, saturated colors will stimulate your brain while muted choices will create a soothing atmosphere.

We especially love using blue tones to stimulate the brain and get those juices flowing.  And a splash of red or yellow can be just trick to inspire creativity and get your blood pumping, keeping you engaged and productive.  Green reminds the brain of nature, creating a soothing effect. Are you thinking about updating your home office? We can help!  Be sure to check out our Pinterest board on Colorful Home Offices!

Helpful Hint:  Stainless steel is still the overwhelmingly most requested finish of appliances.  Stainless steel is highly reflective and looks phenomenal paired with a bold, bright color like a deep saturated red or Spanish yellow!

Color Combos We Love: Mint Green and Pale Pink

Unexpected color combinations can be a great way to make a unique and an exciting space in your home.  Mint green and pale pink is one fun option to bring color to your home.  And don’t think this color combination is limited just to young girls or feminine spaces.  These pastel shades bring a soft sophistication and are perfect for any room in your home.  They also have the versatility to bring a historical and even traditional look with them and are also perfect for your retro or contemporary styles.

I hope you felt inspired by some of these spaces.  Would you like to incorporate this color combination in your room?  I’d love to hear in what room you would like to put this combination to the test!

Add Some Pizzaz with Color

Adding a splash of color can breathe optimism or tranquility into any space and can be achieved by first prioritizing the mood you would like to feel in that space, as well as understanding the light.  We all know that color can express different moods, for example a bright, saturated orange exudes vivacity and excitement, whereas a softer, more muted tone can bring a calming effect.  Considering the right color for your space is crucial to effectively use your desired color to create the right effect.

“Your home should be like a good dose of Zoloft.”- Jonathan Adler

Use color the way you would like to see it and allow it to create the desired emotional effect.  Think about more vibrant, energetic colors for spaces like your living room where there is lots of activity and maybe a more soothing hue in your bedroom retreat.

Golden Globe Color Trend Inspired Interiors

One of my absolute favorite times of year is awards season and the red carpet special at this year’s Golden Globes awards did not disappoint!  I eagerly watched to see what color trends would be coming our way this year.  There were some fabulous risk takers who pushed the envelope (think Lupita  Nyong’o's radiant orchid inspired confection dress).  I jotted down a few trends that I observed and some of my favorite examples.

Old Hollywood Glamor: Scarlet Hue, Elegant Cuts

There were some beautiful scarlet hued gowns that exuded old Hollywood glamor that you would absolutely expect on the Red Carpet.  I especially enjoyed seeing the look on so many different age groups and body types, creating a unique and stunning silhouette.  The passionate and energetic feeling these scarlet gowns inspire is exactly the reaction I had to some of these “Golden Globe Color Trend Inspired Interiors.”

Modern Metallics

We also saw eye-catching metallic gowns in modern silhouettes on some of Hollywood’s leading ladies.  Julianne Moore shows just how versatile this shimmery, exciting shade can be.

Yellow: Cheerful and Feminine

There was also a delightful representation of soft, yellow gowns on the Red Carpet that oozed style, femininity, and optimism.  The various saturations of yellow created an exciting comparison as well.

Did you notice any trends on this year’s Red Carpet or have a favorite gown?  I’d love to hear your thoughts!  And if you want more of our Golden Globe inspired interiors, check out our Pinterest board!
