This month we are celebrating the special men in our lives.  Fathers, grandfathers, brothers, husbands, and puppy daddies alike bring joy to our lives! Creating an atmosphere to stimulate everything we love about the men in our lives is a rigorous and rewarding process.  It is crucial to understand how the space is used to create the right solution, and hey, it makes sense that men are advocates of form follows function!  We hope you will follow our blog posts on Tuesdays and Thursdays this June to check out interior design solutions, tips, tricks, and photos to drool over for the special men in your life all month long!

We all joke about the term "Man Cave," but wouldn't it be great to have that perfect space for watching the game or poker night?  Here are a few tips when thinking about creating your own Man Cave.

Figure out the best location for you Man Cave that is its own space, because after all it is a retreat,  Whether a spare bedroom or the room above the garage, find that ideal location!

As exciting as the project can be to it's tough to not grab the ball and run with it!  Take a step back and think about all the things you'll need and how you'll use them.  This is definitely a place where we come in to help you make the best decisions from phase one to help you maximize your budget.

Have Fun With Your Theme

If the man in your life is a football enthusiast dedicate the space to maximum comfort and function for game watching with even a dedicated Fantasy Football station.  Is he a poker player?  Pool enthusiast?  All of these questions can help you determine what elements to put together to make the space more than just a room with a pool table in it.  

Give It Some Style!

Once you have your theme, then you can really jazz it up!  A Man Cave isn't destined to be a dark room with worn leather sofas and a La-Z-Boy recliner, it can express just who the man in your life is while serving as a comfortable retreat. Creating a cohesive style will create just the mood for the space and make it a destination place in your home.

Memorial Day Retreats: Modern Blue Ridge Mountain House

As Memorial Day approaches, we are all looking forward to spending that time on the lake, at the beach, or even your mountain retreat!  So I wanted to check out the beautiful architecture and interiors we have to offer here in North Carolina and I stumbled on this fabulous modernist mountain house in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Architect Peter Gluck and his son designed their family retreat and I have to say, I would love to spend my Memorial Day here!  Here is a peek at the stunning house from an Architectural Digest spread.

Charlotte Women's Magazine and Lovely Lacquered Accents

I was thrilled to be featured in this month’s Charlotte Woman magazine article on “Designing Women.”  You can check out the full article here!  The question and answer set up of the article was an excellent opportunity to discuss my background, design inspiration, and even a few tips!  One of the things I mentioned in the article was on my favorite design element for spring, which is a lacquered piece of furniture in a bright, vibrant hue.  It really brightens up a space and can be that point of intrigue in your space!

Bringing the Outdoors Inside: Adding Floral Prints to Your Powder Room

The buzz that wallpaper is back is all around!  The Charlotte Observer recently ran a special edition all about what wallpaper can bring to your home.  Wallpaper adds color, pattern and texture that paint simply can’t give you and on top of that, it can end up saving you money when creating a polished look! The fabulously talented Traci Zeller put it best: “Wallpaper provides a great backdrop in a room.  When you have a bold wallpaper you don’t need a lot of art.”  Your wallpaper fills that decorative niche artwork does and can come in at a much lower price tag. 

The options with wallpaper are so diverse, from textured grasscloths to bold prints, there is something for everyone and can be used in any space.  And if you’re not ready to commit to a bold print on every wall, an accent wall can be just the ticket!  And with spring blooming in full force, why not consider keeping that beauty all year long!  Here are some of our favorite floral prints that can give your powder room a beautiful, natural feel.

Aerin Lauder, simply elegant

I first had the privilege of meeting Aerin Lauder at the debut of her first fabric line for Kravet in 2013.  I found her to be one of the most down to earth and gracious famous person I've ever met. Now I haven't met too many of them,  since I only run in that crowd periodically.  Haha

Today I was again touched by her simple elegance when she addressed a group of about 500 ladies at the annual Room to Bloom event sponsored by the Mint Museum auxiliary in Charlotte, NC

Aerin spoke lovingly about her grandmother Estee Lauder, sharing fond memories about life and the influence she had on her both personally and professionally.

Aerin also spoke about family, inspirations, lifestyle, her brand and philanthropy. A truly delightful person and role model. I am looking forward to reading her new book 'Beauty at Home'.
