Coordinating Wallpaper and Fabric!

As most of you know, wallpaper and fabric are two very instrumental design tools.  The most subtle change to one or both of these elements can completely transform the feel of a room.  When it comes to choosing wallpaper and fabric, it really takes a trained eye to recognize the patterns and colors that layer nicely and come together.

Thibaut is one brand that creates beautiful wallpaper and fabrics that compliment each other.  I was especially inspired by their new Resort collection!  With this collection, Thibaut does an excellent job of showing how the same pattern can be used for both the wallpaper and fabric, and also how to use two differing but complimentary patterns.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Wallpaper & Fabric: South Sea in Turquoise
Pillow Fabric: Mara Embroidery in White and Turquoise

Wallpaper & Curtain Fabric: Sun Garden in Blue
Chair Fabric: Montserrat in Blue

Wallpaper: Nikko in Tangerine and Grey
Bench Fabric: Regina in Charcoal
Pillow Fabric: Shore Thing in Tangerine and Grey; South Sea in Grey

Wallpaper & Fabric: Tanzania in Turquoise

Wallpaper: Bungalow in Yellow (featured in this week's Wallpaper Wednesday on my Facebook page!)
Chair Fabric: Twisted Chain in Yellow and Gray
Pillow Fabric: South Sea in Yellow

Wallpaper & Fabric: Downing Gate in Green
(Click here to see the full Thibaut Resort collection)

This collection shows that being adventurous with patterns and colors can have beautiful results.  Do you need help coordinating wallpaper and fabrics?  If so, contact me at rosa@rosadestinteriors.com for a consultation!

Adventures in Austin, TX!

This past weekend, I went to Austin, Texas to move my son Anthony into his new house to start graduate school!  Austin is a great city that prides itself on being weird!  During my short trip, I wanted to experience all that Austin had to offer.  Here are some of the highlights from the weekend, enjoy!

John Mueller Meat Co.  If you are ever in Austin, eating at this authentic Texas BBQ restaurant is an absolute must!  This was the best BBQ and brisket that I've ever had!

Allens Boots:  This store was about as Texas as they come!  They have a huge selection of cowboy hats, clothes, and cowboy boots.  The walls of cowboy boots really made me feel like I was in Texas!

Uncommon Objects:  This very unique store definitely showcased Austin's "weirdness"!  Uncommon Objects carries antiques, oddities, and "curious goods".  From stuffed rodents to funky masks, this store was full of conversation pieces!
Just a few of Uncommon Objects' oddities and curious goods!

Flight of the Bats:   Every night at dusk, millions of bats fly out from under the Congress St. Bridge and travel up the river.  Lots of families and tourists gather to watch this spectacular event, and it was truly a site to see!

Cowboy hats are everywhere in Austin!  While we were out and about, I counted tons of cowboy hats, worn by both tourists and locals!  Of all the cowboy hats I saw over the weekend, this was the biggest and the best:

A weekend away is a great opportunity to get inspired by new cultures and ideas!  Vacations are also a great time to find unique and interesting pieces for your home or office.  If you need help integrating unique pieces or ideas into your home or office design, contact me at rosa@rosadestinteriors.com for a consultation.

Aerin Lauder Fabric Collection!

As some of you may know, this past May I had the privilege of attending Blogfest 2013 held by Kravet in New York City.  It was a great opportunity for me to learn new ways to expand my business, as well as network with other designers!  One of my favorite parts of the trip was attending an exclusive preview of the AERIN fabric collection for Lee Jofa (Lee Jofa is a Kravet-owned brand).  The AERIN fabric collection was designed by Aerin Lauder as a part of her AERIN Lifestyle Brand, and will be available this Fall!

Aerin Lauder is the granddaughter of Joseph and Estee Lauder.  Along with the recent launch of her lifestyle brand, which includes cosmetics, jewelry, shoes, housewares, furniture, and now fabrics, Aerin is also remains active contributer to the family global beauty business, Estee Lauder.

During her presentation, Aerin explained that while designing her fabrics, she kept functionality and comfort in mind, which is extremely important! (See my blog post on the importance of functionality).  The collection is a reflection of Aerin's personal style, which is said to be "effortless, timeless, and unmistakably modern".

I was very impressed with the collection, so let me know what you all think! Here are some photos I snapped during the presentation:

Color Your Life!

Using color is a great way to brighten your home.  Unfortunately, some people are intimidated by the thought of using color and shy away from incorporating it into their home or office designs.  It is important to remember that pops of color can be used without making the space too loud or tacky.  When done so correctly, the use of color in a space can be the key to incorporating the client's personality into the design.  Here are some example of great uses of color in designs:

Do you want to brighten or refresh your space without making any drastic changes?  You can add color through accessories and table toppers!  Adding new accessories with pops of color are a great way to bring your space to life.  Because using accessories is an inexpensive way to refresh a room, they can be updated or rotated seasonally!  Here are some great example of accessories that can add a pop of color to your space:
From left to right:  Serena & Lily throw pillow, Z Gallerie candles, Z Gallerie faux coral, Serena & Lily Moroccan poufs, Z Gallerie frames, Joss & Main elephant statuette, Z Gallerie pillar, Z Gallerie lamp, Z Gallerie lanterns, Joss & Main monkey statuettes,  Z Gallerie frames, Serena & Lily throw pillow.

NARI Meeting at Hughes Supply!

As a Design Professional, I have the opportunity to be a part of some great organizations.  One of those organizations is the Charlotte Chapter of NARI, the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.  A few weeks ago I attended NARI's July Dinner Meeting, held at Hughes Supply in Huntersville.  Hughes Supply is a plumbing supplier for residential, commercial, and institutional plumbing collections, so as both a residential and commercial Interior Designer, it was a great opportunity for me to see their inventory.

Here are some photos of the Hughes showroom that I snapped during the meeting:

Hughes Supply has 93+ years of experience in this field.  They carry a variety of bath and plumbing collections from brands such as Kallista, Moen, Kohler, Grohe, Brizo, Rohl, and Newport Brass.

I had a great time catching up with other NARI members, and also meeting new ones.  It is always a positive experience when I get to socialize with other professionals in my industry.

ASID Meeting at the New Gallery of Modern Art!

As a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, I enjoy attending the organization's quarterly meetings.  The most recent gathering earlier this month was an extra special treat because it was held at the New Gallery of Modern Art here in Charlotte.
Lisa Femrite, ASID Carolinas Design Community Chair

The speakers, Irina Toshkiva, director of the Gallery and Madison Ibarguen, gave a presentation showcasing the beautiful designs of the gallery.
Irina Toshkova, Gallery Director
Irina discussed how art affects life and lifts the spirit and soul.  She also discussed the influence art has over  design, explaining how it can add balance, texture, light, and movement to a space.  Art is an expression of our personalities.  When designing a space, using art is is a great way to ensure that the new space reflects the tastes and personality of the client.

Here are some of my favorite pieces from the gallery:
Sandra Muss
Burgundy Dusk,  2011
Maja Godlewska
Small Layered Cloud,  2008

Small Layered Cloud,  2008
Shepard Fairey
Harmony,  2012
Hunt Slonem
Amazons,  2012
Rick Lazes
Wood Sculpture
This wood sculpture, one of many made by Rick Lazes, is especially interesting because it was made out of one piece of wood.  These wood pieces by Lazes can also be duplicated in steel to be suitable for outdoor display.

Art will enhance every home and office and it is a reflection of your personality!  I am happy to help you select art that is the right piece for you. Contact me today at rosa@rosadestinteriors.com
